Customer

Biogen Idec is the world’s third-largest manufacture of biologics. Researchers at Biogen Idec are doing pioneering work in areas that have a major need for new, innovative therapies. To optimally exploit synergies, Biogen Idec accentuates its own research with numerous alliances and strategic partnerships. The therapeutic focal points are neurology, oncology, dermatology, immunology and cardiology. The American company is represented in 26 countries and has sales representatives in 70 other nations.

In 2003, we developed on behalf of Biogen Idec a full-service concept for national deliveries to pharmacies in selected countries as well as for the international distribution of temperature-sensitive medications.

From the very start, we served as a strategic adviser to the company and worked as a service partner to successfully implement a full-service logistics concept. In doing so, we created efficient structures adapted to the market. These structures enable Biogen Idec to cut costs, optimally deliver customer orders and provide customer-focused service. This markedly helps strengthen Biogen Idec’s competitive position.

In response to Biogen Idec’s product requirements, we developed complex solutions and ensured that thermo-labile medications could be stored and transported in specially developed, integrity-protecting cool boxes. Advanced IT systems provide the largest amount of transparency and the highest level of security in maintaining the cold chain. These systems monitor all shipment movements, ensuring uninterrupted temperature tracking. To provide this service, we use our comprehensive know-how, modern technology and established processes with high quality standards.

By passing on responsibility for the entire order-processing system as well as for customer service, Biogen Idec can focus even more intently on its own core jobs. The partnership with numerous other bio-tech companies reflects the success of our services.

Central activities

• Implementing a cold-chain logistics concept
• Erecting a qualified cold-storage facility
• Centralizing all product flows through a central warehouse according to FEFO
• Developing and validating a cool box that ensures the desired temperature of (2-8°C) for up to 48 hours
• Picking and individually managing all national and international shipment transports
• Providing Europe-wide direct deliveries within 24 to 48 hours
• Developing and introducing tracking & tracing solutions from optimal order monitoring and delivery precision as well as documenting compliance with the required temperature range
• Providing orders processing, customer service and financial services (invoice issuing, receivables management, collections)
